Washing Your Newborn Baby – Useful Tips For New Mothers

Washing your baby can be a lot of fun. Everyone has those naked pictures that embarrass them when they get older, but that only happens when the baby is old enough to stand splash around. Before that, the parents have to do all the work. Washing babies is a gentle process though. It doesn’t become fun and messy until the children are old enough to splash you.

Babies should be washed in a basin or a sink and not in the bathtub. This makes holding the baby easier and more comfortable for the parent. While washing the baby hold one arm under the baby’s head to secure the baby. You are going to need certain items before you get started. It’s better to have everything in the bathroom before you start the baby’s bath. Use a washcloth to clean the baby, but don’t get an adult washcloth. You want it to be soft so it won’t irritate the baby’s sensitive skin. Don’t put running water straight on to the baby’s body. Check it before you start washing your baby. Make sure the water is lukewarm, not too hot and not too cold. Cup the water with your hand or use a small bucket to pour the water on your baby.

Make sure you use soaps and shampoos that are specially made for babies. Regular items can be too harsh on your baby. Try to get everything done in a quick and efficient manner. Don’t prolong the baths because babies lose body heat quickly. Once the bath is finished put the baby in a hooded towel, dry them off and put them in fresh, clean clothing. The cooler the room, the faster you want the child out of the bath. Try to keep the room warm where you are washing and dressing the baby.

When washing the baby, start with the appendages. Make sure you clean between the toes and fingers, behind the knees and ears. Get all the little parts you miss on yourself while in the shower. Then, wash the baby’s torso. This will prevent you from using dirty water once you start cleaning the parts of the baby’s body that is covered with the diaper.

The head isn’t very different than the rest of the body. There isn’t usually enough hair on a baby’s head to worry about it. You can use the washcloth to clean it. Pour the water over the baby’s hair and avoid the eyes. Babies don’t like water getting in their eyes.

You can make baths part of the nightly routine for babies. Bathe them, put them in fresh clothes and then put them down to sleep. This could also makes sleeping more comfortable.
