Choosing Bedding For Your Baby’s Crib

Author: Jan Jacobs

Having a baby is the most amazing experience a woman can have as it is an accomplishment of the biological function of the female species. After the giving birth process, the genuine work starts. Feeding bottles, nappy changes, immunization records are just one or two of the things the new mom have to learn fast. And one significant thing to think about in the coming of the baby is the sort of baby bedding he will use. According to Dr. Mark Brandenburg ( http://www.baby-place.com / crib_safety.html ), the no 1 rule to follow in selecting the proper baby bedding for your dear child is safety. The second rule asserts safety and the 3rd rule stresses safety. We are to decide that it’s not enough to point out it, it’s got to be emphasized that baby bedding is imperative for the comfort of the baby.

In his article on the easiest way to find the ideal baby bedding, it has to be neither too hard nor too soft. During the past, unexpected child death syndrome or SIDS was traced to really soft baby bedding. This occurred when the baby’s mattress is too soft that his nose and mouth gets covered and the air he exhales is the air he breathes. This is deadly for him since he would breath CO2 instead of oxygen and the effects can lead to fatigue, coma or perhaps death. There are a large amount of styles and makes in selecting the baby’s bed. And with that, it follows the baby bedding must be an ideal fit with the chosen hardware.

The 3 major selections are : a bassinet, a crib or a cradle. What differentiates one from the other? A bassinet is an oblong-shaped basket that serves as a bed for a child.

But infrequently, round bassinets are also available. A crib is a bed that’s flanked with high side bars for a baby or young kid’s safety. Cribs are customarily cheaper since the baby can use it from youth to 2 years. While a cradle is a tiny low bed that a child uses which has rockers on its stand. In all of these, the material used to make the kit should alert and signal to the mom how much safety cares are required.

Bassinets are often lacey and full of trappings.

The baby bedding must fit the bassinet so the baby’s space is sufficient for her or him to be in a position to roll from side to side. The crib is mostly square, so, mattresses can be fitted to the dimensions of the crib. The baby bedding customarily is a group of coverlet and little pillows. Hotdog pillows may also be placed within. the pillows shouldn’t be more than 2 or three lest the baby can stand on them and could fall over. The cradle can come in assorted configurations and sizes. Some moms like cradles so that when the baby is cranky, she can be rocked to be quieted down.

The baby bedding for a cradle should follow the form of it. Not very much can be placed within it since it is utilized mainly to rock the baby to sleep. one needn’t the 3 to keep the baby safe, warm and secure. One will do and this would rely on the parent’s preference. The most preferred would be the crib since it may be employed for a long while. Now that we’ve covered the basic gear, how can we furnish it with baby bedding? We have recently established the baby bedding should fit the sleeping kit to avoid accidents and other unfavourable situations. The most acceptable material to use is cotton as it is absorbent and cool to the baby’s skin. Different designs have to be used to excite the baby’s color and pattern recognition. the baby bedding is a vital allow for keeping the baby content and healthy.

PARENTING TIPS TO IMPROVE VERBAL INTERACTION WITH KIDS

Author: Daniel Beeler

To assist parents increase the level, and improve the quality, of their verbal interactions with their children, here are a few suggestions.

• Keep a paper and a pencil handy and make notes of the things you hear your children talking about or expressing interest in. When you hear them discussing to their friends or to one another, make note of the things they spoke about. The topics they bring up on their own and spend time talking about provide you with the best clues available about what is of interest to them.

• Talk to your children in a very natural way. Make sure it doesn’t come across as a formal discussion.
• Don’t try to be too “hip” as you talk to children. Avoid the use of terms and language the kids use. Use terms that are most familiar to you and the most characteristic of you, but which the kids understand. Kids don’t like it when their parents try to talk like kids.

• Watch for signs that tell you you’ve talked long enough. Ordinarily, conversations with children about “just things” don’t usually last very long. For that matter, kids don’t typically spend very long talking with their friends about such things. They bounce around from topic to topic, and thing to thing, never spending much time on anything or going into much depth

• Keep the conversation dignified. Avoid gossip, profanity, off-color jokes, or turns-of-phrase that compromise your adult level of dignity and civility. Remain a cut above “just one of the guys.” Children want their parents to have class. They want their parents to be someone to look up to. The quality of your conversations with them can go a long way in establishing that image of you in your children’s eyes. An occasional, appropriate joke is a very good thing. While the family is gathered around the dinner table is a wonderful time to share a good joke and bring a little humor into the family.

• Avoid ethnic jokes or any kind of joke or story that puts another person or another people down or that evokes humor at the expense of someone else. Maintain your dignity as an adult by showing respect for other cultures. Children really appreciate that.

• Regarding jokes, appropriate, clean humor is a characteristic of low-risk families. In such families there is a lot of smiling, laughing and lots of happy times. Come to the dinner table every night with a couple of good jokes.
Children who learn good verbal skills are more likely to also have good social skills.

Correct Sleeping Position When Pregnant

Author: happy pig

Many pregnant women are facing with multitude of sleep disturbances, including nausea, heartburn, constant urge to pee, snoring etc which make them really exhausted. But you can follow these guidelines to get a better night’s sleep:

Follow a regular bedtime routine, sleep and get up at the same time everyday.

Say no to smoking and alcohol because it not only harms your baby but also makes it difficult for you to get sleep.

Cut down on caffeinated substances such as tea, coffee, soda, and chocolate.

Avoid heavy meals and spicy foods before bedtime. Have a light meal atleast two to three hours before going to bed so that your food digests and that will prevent problems like heartburn and indigestion.

After having dinner take a warm water bath or listen to some soothing music or read a book. These things will help you get a good night sleep.

Exercise three to four hours before you go to bed because inorder to have sound sleep at night you must give your body time to unwind after exercising. Some studies also show that exercising too close to bedtime can cut down on deep sleep.

Keep the temperature of your bedroom on the cool side since during your pregnancy you are likely to feel warmer than usual. Sleep is necessary therefore you have to ensure that noise, too much light etc, do not disturb your sleep.

If you are unable to sleep it is advisable to get out of bed and go to another room and watch TV or listen to music or do any other work. Don’t try to force yourself to bed.

If you’re troubled by nausea (common during the first trimester), keep your stomach full by eating frequent bland snacks such as crackers, especially before bedtime.

During pregnancy it is advisable to sleep on your left side. This position helps blood and nutrients flow to the fetus and uterus and helps your kidneys eliminate waste and fluids. Plus, getting used to this position now will help you sleep better when your belly is bulging.

While it’s important to drink plenty of fluids when you’re pregnant, drinking more in the morning and less in the late afternoon and evening will help you cut down on bathroom breaks during the night.

Try to take small naps whenever you get the time. A 30- to 60-minute snooze during the day will improve alertness, sharpen memory, and generally reduce the symptoms of fatigue.

Babies And Toddlers – How To Succeed 5

Development

An infant between 12 months and 36 months old exhibits a number of changes that form part of its process of development. The following series of observations focuses on that particular time span, and highlights those changes that may be classified as a “milestone.” It will consider what may be defined as an average child covering specific time periods within this development phase.

Age – 24 to 36 Months

Physical

Climbing onto a chair and walking up stairs will now have progressed into a more advanced form of mobility, including the development of climbing skills over and above domestic challenges.

The ability to hold a spoon and feed itself will have now been extended to the dexterous handling of small objects, such as the components of a jigsaw puzzle.

By now, the child’s need for independence and self awareness will be further displayed in its requirement to be able to dress itself, no matter the difficulty posed by shoe laces and buttons, amongst other things.

Mental

The vocabulary of spoken words will have now increased from 20-50, a few months ago, to the ability to speak coherently in actual sentences.

There will now be a natural desire and eagerness to learn new words and their meaning, including the names of people and places.

The child will now be aware of everyday actions and will be in a position to anticipate them, such as the opening of the curtains.

Recently, the child was sorting its toys whilst exhibiting a form of methodology which has now moved on to an imaginative display and interaction with its toys or other precious mementos.

Involvement in everyday occurrences may now be extended to an interaction with the immediate environment, such as trying to sing along with music.

Emotional

Role playing in games will now have identified the existence of both genders especially in the minds of only children.

Self awareness will now have moved on to the next level in which the child will have an opinion and express preferences, such as in the choice of clothes and forms of entertainment.

During this development phase, the child experiences a growing interaction with its peers. This is particularly noticeable in respect of participation in a variety of games in which it will learn the involvement of taking its turn in a structured fashion. As a result, such interactions will enhance the child’s social standing within the contact groups.

The infant should be fully aware by now that objects continue to exist even when they are no longer visible, e.g. putting a toy in a box and closing the lid so the child can no longer see it.

This is an example of object permanence, which is a measure of the development in the child’s intelligence.

Worst Mistakes You Can Make as a Parent

Author: Kasan Groupe

As a parent, you aspire to give your kids everything they want. It’s so hard to say no sometimes because you just want them to be happy all the time. Even though it may be difficult, you’ve got to draw the line somewhere. Teenagers, especially, need to have rules enforced because structure and discipline will make them stronger, more responsible adults. So essentially you are doing them an injustice by being such a pancake. If you are completely lost and have no idea where to lay down the law, just take a look at my list of things teenagers shouldn’t be allowed to do.

1. Gamble. Obviously they aren’t allowed to hit up the casinos yet and thank God for that, but you should also prevent them from gambling with their friends. Games like Texas Hold’em have become increasingly popular with high school students across the nation, but allowing your child to play will encourage them to frivolously waste their time and money. Unfortunately you can’t always police your child’s actions when they are out with their friends, but certainly avoid encouraging these behaviors by buying your son or daughter a poker table this Christmas.

2. Sleepover at their boyfriend or girlfriend’s house. This is the absolute worst thing you can do as a parent. It will most certainly give your child a lax outlook on the dangers of promiscuity. Some parents rationalize they would rather have their kids at home them out at a friends, but by allowing this kind of behavior, you are basically giving your child permission to sleep around.

3. Drink alcohol. You hear plenty of horror stories these days of parents providing alcohol for their children and their friends at parties. This is a huge no-no. Not only is it illegal to provide alcohol to a minor, but will also push your child towards alcoholism and drug abuse. Alcohol is certainly a gateway drug when used irresponsibly by teenagers. So don’t make this common mistake because it can be truly detrimental to your child’s mental and physical health.

Parenting is one of the most difficult and stressful jobs you will ever have, but it’ll all be worth it when your son or daughter grows up to be a valuable member of society. Make smart decisions and be more of a parent than a friend and you’re child will thank you for it later in life.

    Advantages of Single Parent Families

    Author: Annie Parron

Single parents often worry that their children will somehow be damaged from living in a single parent family. While a single parent family may not be the ideal situation for raising children, many two-parent families are also less than desirable. Kids can actually benefit from living in a single parent family.

Results of studies have indicated that a home filled with conflict is the least desirable home environment for children. When the child’s prior two-parent household included frequent fighting and discord between the adults, the child can benefit from living in a one-parent home provided that the conflict is stopped. A parent who is no longer devoting time to warring with a partner may have more energy to give to the kids. Children observe adult relationships and usually apply what they have learned to their own relationships as adults. By residing with only one parent, the child may actually have a chance to observe healthier adult relationships.

Children learn valuable lessons from dealing with hard times and having different lifestyle from many of their peers Your family may not represent the stereotypical American family, but there can still be lots of love and fun in your home.

A single parent may actually have more time for the kids that a married parent would have. Since there is no longer a spouse around at mealtime, meals don’t have to be as substantial and can be structured around kid-friendly ingredients. If your former partner was not very involved with housework, you may have more time since you now have one less person to care for. Financial worries may actually be fewer. Yes, you have less income, but you also have total control over the expenditures that you may not have had while with your partner.

The opportunity to spend time in two separate homes can be a good experience for your children. They will see different approaches to life and hopefully, take the best of both homes to use in establishing their own households as adults.

Often, a child with parents who live apart will gain a stepparent or two. Your child’s extended family will then be even larger, giving her more chances to develop meaningful relationships with caring adults. Your kids may even get exposure to new ideas or experiences that could ultimately lead to a career or hobby for your child.

Kids who live with only one parent tend to develop independence faster than their peers. Since the parent will probably have a job and other many other duties on their plate, the kids may have to learn to do things for themselves such as preparing a simple meal or participating in household chores. Kids with stay-at-home parents or two parents in the home may not have as many opportunities to take part in the day-to-day responsibilities of running a household. The kids also learn that they need to be ready to take care of themselves, since they, too, could end up on their own or in a single parenting situation someday.

A favorite benefit of many kids from single parent families is that they often get two or more celebrations for each holiday. They may get two sets of gifts at Christmas, often getting more stuff than they would have if the parents were together. Two Easter baskets, valentine’s gifts, etc., are also enjoyed by many of these children.

Two-parent homes can often provide many advantages. However, single parent homes can offer many opportunities for self-growth for children along with other benefits. You can commiserate with your kids about their ?different? lifestyle from their peers, but be sure to stress the advantages of their situation, too, along with offering lots of love. Your family can be a successful as a single parent family!

    Creating Baby Shower Invitations

    Author: Jasmine Stone

A pregnant woman, whether it is her first or third time to have a baby, would have a lot on her mind as she nears the date when she is about to give birth. Aside from the physical pains and emotional stress of her upcoming labor, she should have something else to think about. Throwing a baby shower is a great way to lighten her load.

Baby showers are often planned by the mother-to-be’s closest friend or any member of the family. Ideally, they are held anytime within the last 3 months of pregnancy. However, it still depends on the most convenient time for everybody, including the guests and family members. Some even hold baby showers after birth, which is an ideal time for the new member of the family to be introduced to the world.

A great way to start planning a baby shower is by preparing the invitations. These invitations can be hand-made, printed, even ordered online, depending on the person in charge of planning for the affair. Of course, mom-to-be’s would like to be involved in choosing the perfect theme for the baby shower, be it for a girl or a boy. Here are some great ideas to create baby shower invites to prepare for that oh-so-fun baby shower:

Create you own invitations. First, think of a theme for the party. Do you want to have a Disney-inspired baby shower? Or you might want to have an animal theme. Whatever motif you decide on, make sure that the invitations that you will send out will reflect the main theme. One specific idea is to attach the printed invitations to pacifiers or tie then with a ribbon and put them inside feeding bottles or powder puff canisters. Place them inside any baby accessory that you think will be useful. They can be in pink or blue, or both, if you do not know the baby’s gender yet. These items can even be brought to the party by the guest for the mother to use after she gives birth.

2-in-1 invitation ala give-away. You can print out the details of when and where the baby shower will be held and put them in mini-picture frames. These would make great invitations, and can be kept as after-party souvenirs. Make sure that the frames reflect the theme of the party as well.

Personalize your invites. A baby shower is not just a tribute to the boy or girl who is about to be born, but it also celebrates the joys and sacrifices of the mom-to-be. She is the one who deserves to have a break for taking care of the baby in her womb for the past months. You can think of ways to show the mother’s personality on the invitations that you will give out. One web site offers unique baby shower invitations, with names like “Polka Dot Mama”, “Hip Mama” and “Tummy Love”. You can also use the mom’s work, for example, as a party theme. If the mom-to-be dabbles in writing, you can use children’s books as invites, just stick a huge bookmark in it, where the details of the baby shower will be printed. For a mother who is a chef, or who just plain loves to cook, you can create mini-chef hats which can be made of cloth, paper or felt and just stick the invite in front.

Order the invitations online. If you are in a hurry and do not have the time to make the invitations yourself, you can order them online. There are a lot of web sites where you can view samples of baby shower invites. If you have not thought of a theme yet, you can also get great ideas from these web sites. You can even download ready-made invitations, just change the wordings and print out copies in specialized paper, then, voila, you now have your own personalized baby shower invites. There are hundreds of possibilities on how to create your special baby shower invitations. Just let your imagination run wild and you will surely come up with the perfect theme for that baby shower that is bound to be fun for everybody.

    Baby Crying Advice

    Author: Maxine Williams

For a new parent, trying to dissern the reason behind your babies crying can be stressful, worrying and leave you feeling guilty or incapable. The truth is, it takes time to get to know your baby, and time for your baby to get to know you. A lot of people talk about learning from your babies cries..but first you need to know which cry is for what! Below are some of the reasons why babies cry. Work through each one, it will help you begin to recognise your babies different cries.

    1. The main reason a newborn baby cries is hunger. It can be difficult to establish if your baby is hungry, as it can take a while for your bay to settle into a steady feeding pattern, especially with regular growth spurts making them hungrier. Some new babies like to feed every two hours, others may be happy to go four, but by presuming your new bbay is hungry and offering a feed, you shoul dslowly begin to get an idea of when your baby may be hungry. The chances are, if your baby only takes an ounce before fussing and crying, or only breastfeeds for a few minutes, its not really hunger, but perhaps one of the other reasons below.

    2. Tiredness or overtiredness. A good rule of thumb for a newborn baby is that they usually need a nap every two hours or so. This changes as they grow and all babies are different but when they are very tiny, they get tired out very easily. Some babies who dont find it so easy to settle to sleep or receive lots of stimulation may become overtired, kind of like the times you yourself may go to bed but find you just cant sleep, though you really need to. A good way to help them unwind is to take them to a nice quiet dim room and rock them gently until they feel more able to settle to sleep.

    3. Wet or Dirty Nappies. Some babies really hate the feel of wet or dirty bums. Luckily this is easy to suss out, just have a wee check!

    4. Wind. Some babies suffer mor with trapped wind than others and may not be able to burp for up to half an hour after a feed. You will probably become more aware of this the more used to feeding your baby you become. Some recommend giving baby a wind half way through a feed and then again at the end of a feed, and keeping baby upright for half an hour or so. If your baby is very windy, infacol can help, a special medicine designed to help baby get wind up easier. It can be bought over the counter or gotten on perscription.

    5. Boredom and frustration. As your baby begins to get older, he or she may become bored more easily, relying on you to provide them with stimulation. By about 3-4 months, most babies enjoy musical toys, like bells or rattles. Also some babies become very frustrated, say they want to reach something, but they cant move that far yet, this can lead to outbreaks of crying. Watching your baby and observing his or her actions will help you realise when boredem or frustration is the issue.

    6. Illness/Teething. Some babies can teeth from a very early age, knowing the signs of teething can help:

Rosy Red Cheek or Cheeks that feel warm to the touch.
A temperature of no higher than 38.3 degrees.
more dirty nappies or strong smelling urine.
waking up a lot during the night or during naps
    becoming more clingy than ususal
Wanting to always be chomping on something
    excessive drooling
A blister or swollen gums, sometimes with a tiny white line as the tooth begins to push up.

If your baby is over two months, you are able to buy teething gels, baby calpol and ashton and parsons teething powders which will help ease the discomfort and making sure your baby has something hard to chomp on.

If your baby is hotter than 38.3 and does not display other signs of teething or you think it could be more than teething, then pop down to your GP for a check over and some advice.

    7. Babies can be sensitive little beings and if you are feeling particularily unhappy or stressed they may pick up on that and respond to it. It can help to give your baby to someone esle to settle then.

    8. Seperation Anxiety. Some babies suffer more from clinginess than others, and this is termed as seperation anxiety which is most commen from 6 months and up. Some say it corresponds with developmental phases, so say your baby is just learning to crawl, your baby will then realise that suddenly he or she can move away from mummy and this can make them become anxious. Some may cry all of a sudden when left to go off to sleep, where before they didnt mind. Its important to deal with this gently and patiently, as just leaving your baby to get on with it can make this phase last a lot longer and also risk emotional damage. Playing games like peek a boo, and gradually hiding for longer till your baby loses interest can help, also having a ‘comfort action’, such as putting on a certain song when you leave the room, or singing to your baby can help them realise that although mummy isnt there to see, she is still about. Generally most babies are happy to be left alone for short periods of time from 1 year.

    Naming trends

    Author: Paul Banas

Naming a child can be tricky. While selecting names for their children, many parents simply pick names they like. Others however may be influenced, consciously or not, by popular trends. There is nothing wrong with this. However, being aware of such trends may help parents understand the reasons for their choice better. It may also help them discriminate between names that are creative or expressive, and plain weird.

Some common naming trends include selecting names on the basis of:

    * Tradition: Parents today are rediscovering names from earlier times that somehow lost out to more trendy ones. These not only include names that were in vogue until not so long ago, but may even be drawn directly from ancient or historical sources, for instance, biblical names such as Ananiel, Delilah, or Hanamiel.

    * Exoticvalue: Many parents increasingly opt for exotic names with foreign ethnic roots for their children. These may include amiliar names in their foreign versions, such as the Greek Georgius for George, or more unfamiliar ones such as Tatyana or Estefania.

    * Meaning: There is a trend of naming children with words of positive or personal significance. While overall a good trend, parents need to avoid choosing names that could typecast the child with specific aspirations.

    * Novelty: Many parents create new names by combining two or more accepted names. Others convert surnames into names or switch traditional names between genders. However, parents need to understand that, especially in the case of the latter, such names may expose children to unnecessary ridicule.

Essential Baby Gear for Your Little Angel

    Author: Edwina Jones

If you are a new parent your life must not be the same as before. The new born baby has given you a new meaning of life, isn’t it? Your entire world has changed with the coming of the little angel. It is natural for each and every parent to desire the best things for their baby. The new born babies need extra care and attention. Taking care of the toddlers is not at all easy. First time parents need especial guidance on how to take care of their child. You should know what baby gear is absolutely essential for your baby.

Since parents have become more caring numerous companies have come up with various baby products. You will find several baby products in the market. But it is not necessary to buy all the products together. Don’t go by the temptation of buying everything that the shop keeper shows. Baby gear is expensive. So make a list of the essential items so that you don’t need to break the bank. Another point to note is that try to go for organic baby products which have no harmful side effects. Though they are costly they are safe for your baby.

Baby clothes are really essential. You need to have them for the new born. Many parents just love to see their baby in colorful new dresses. But buying expensive clothes for a new born doesn’t make any sense especially if he/she has received many clothes in the baby shower party. Toddlers grow very fast. So buying too many clothes is nothing but wastage. Avoid buying expensive clothes during the initial months.

Buying five to six sleepers is also essential. Moreover you should have outfits for the baby which he/she can wear when you take him/her out with you. Baby bottles are another important product. Though in the initial months you breast feed the new born, after a few months you need bottles for feeding water.

One of the most important things is the diaper which you definitely need for your baby. This baby gear can not be avoided at any cost. Toddlers need at least 8 to 10 diapers a day. So you need to stock diapers. When you buy baby gear like diaper be very careful because all the brands might not be suitable for your baby. The little one might be allergic to some of the diaper brands.

Baby cribs and baby beds are not to be missed out. Try to go for a crib that has three crib sheets. Adjustable baby cribs are also available in the market. These cribs can be extended as your baby grows up. They can be used up to three years. Besides cribs you should buy the baby pads so that your baby can be comfortable and sleep well. Though cribs are expensive you should not hesitate to buy them because your baby’s safety should be much more important to you.

Baby pouch and strollers are also extremely important for parents who need to go out often and unable to leave their baby at home. If you want to travel safely with your child you need to buy the essential baby gear.

The Effects of Chlorine in Disposable Diapers

    Author: Melanie Nader

For a lot of parents, the big decision making factor is convenience especially when it comes to the diaper debate. For some parents, using disposable brands is the most convenient choice. However, they should reconsider because there are disadvantages to the health of your baby’s skin from using disposable diapers that a diaper ointment won’t be able to treat. Most disposable brands use synthetic ingredients including chlorine which is bad for your baby’s skin. After reading about the effects of chlorine found in disposable diapers, you may want to consider switching to cloth diapers which are only made with natural ingredients.

Chlorine is an ingredient you will most likely find in all disposable diaper brands. It is an extremely harsh chemical that has long term effects to our health. It is most often used to kill bacteria in water and should mostly be used for purifying drinking water, and is usually found in swimming pools to keep them sanitary. So why is it used in diapers? Chlorine makes your skin dry and causes rashes, so if your baby is wearing a diaper with chlorine in it then it is having contact with your baby’s skin for long amounts of time. When exposed to this harsh chemical for a long time, it can unfortunately be a cause of cancer. Using a natural diaper ointment may only provide temporary comfort. It is better to use cloth diapers along with a diaper ointment made with organic ingredients because your baby’s health won’t be negatively affected.

When you look at the ingredients used to make a disposable diaper you may not see the word “Chlorine.” However, you will find the ingredient dioxin listed. It is the chemical used in the bleaching process which makes disposable diapers white. During the bleaching process, the chemical uses chlorine in the gas form. Studies have shown that dioxin can cause cancer if a person is exposed to it for a long time or in big doses. For babies or even adults, small amounts can lead to skin diseases, or rashes.

Another common chemical used in disposable brands is sodium polyacrylate which is used as the liquid absorbing agent. It is often seen as a gel in disposable diapers. This chemical also used to be in tampons and was found to be a cause of toxic shock syndrome. According to Diaper Safari (www.diapersafari.com), the ingredient can no longer be used in tampons but for some reason is still allowed in making disposable diapers.

The effects to your baby’s health are too great to risk from using disposable diapers. Don’t take the risk of damaging your baby’s skin because of the convenience that disposable brands may offer. If possible, always use natural baby products and find diapers that are chlorine free.

Making Bath Time a Safe Time for Your Baby

    Author: Gabriella Gometra

Bath time is a very important time in the daily life of your baby. Not only does it get rid of all those nasty germs on your baby’s skin, it is a fantastic, social, fun time between parent and baby. Just remember to keep safety a first priority. There are at least three possible dangers you need to know about to prevent bath time accidents.

First always be careful to check the temperature of the water. The water temperature should be a little warmer than room temperature. Some people check with their hands. As a mother myself, I find my hands a little less sensitive to heat because I have my hands in hot water all day washing things. I like to get some wrist or elbow in the water to get a proper test. Stir the water around as you are testing its temperature because sometimes there are hot or cool spots. As a wise precaution when you have children in the home, you should have your home water heater set to no more than 120 degrees Fahrenheit or 49 degrees Celsius. You can do this yourself easily be adjusting the dial on the water heater. Once in the tub you should keep your baby away from the faucet in case you accidentally knock the hot water on.

The next thing you should be careful about is injuries from falls or drops. You should always support a very young baby at all times. Be especially careful when removing a young infant from water because they are very slippery. I would always drape the towel over one shoulder before I even undressed my infant so that after the bath I could lift the baby securely with two hands and bring them straight to my body to be wrapped in the towel. With older babies and young children you need to prevent them at all times from trying to stand up in the tub or play too exuberantly because of the dangers of slipping and getting an injury. There is also a danger of getting a head or face injury from the tub spout. There are special tub spout protectors you can buy. Slips in the tub can also be minimized with rubber bathmats or adhesive stencils, but do not count on them to prevent all possible accidents.

Another serious danger at bath time is the danger of drowning. I feel the age of five years is about the right age for being able to leave a child alone in the tub for a few minutes. Any child younger than age five should not be left alone, not even for a second. Many a parent of a drowned child has said they only left the side of the tub for a moment to answer the telephone or the doorbell. Either let the telephone or doorbell ring and stay with your baby, or lift your baby out of the tub and take them with you to get the telephone or door. Be certain before you begin the bath that you have everything with you that you need to complete the bath. Either you will need to do without them or you will remove your child from the tub and take them with you while you fetch them.

With a little common sense you can keep bath time a safe and fun time for your baby. It will be a time you and your baby will look forward to each day. The safety aspects of bath time will become second nature to you, and you can give all your attention to splashing and washing.

    Stress Relief Solution HUGS

    Author: Beverly Kerr

A simple solution for stress relief is one word – HUGS. The feeling of being hugged always makes us feel good. Better yet if we find someone that we really would like to hug. Just stop and think about getting or giving a hug ……..don’t you feel more relaxed and warm inside?

When you were a child getting a hug from Mom or Dad was an important part of growing up. Hugs share a closeness and love that isn’t felt any other way. From Grandma to neighbor a friendly hug gives you a feeling of love that maybe words just can’t express. The best part about a hug that it doesn’t need any special high tech equipment – just someone to put your arms around and hold up close.

Teddy Bears are there for a substitute – just in case you don’t have someone handy to hug. Children enjoy going to sleep with their arms wrapped around a teddy bear. It is a way for them to have that special someone close by as they drift off to sleep. A teddy bear gift is always a favorite!

No matter what the age of the person, a teddy bear gift will make them smile and feel better as they are comforting in time of trouble. Because of their softness, Teddy Bears are also great traveling companions and can even be used for a pillow.. A soft teddy is sure to make someone happy!

It is said that giving pleasure produces the same amount of stress relief for the body as receiving pleasure. Spread a little kindness in the world today, and give a Teddy Bear gift and make yourself and others feel more at peace. Teddy Bears want to be part of your life, your home, and your heart.

Remember to Hug Someone Today – maybe your Teddy Bear

How to Furnish Your Baby’s Room – Contemporary and Modern Style

    strong>Author: Ted Chan

During the first few months of a baby’s life, some parents may decide that bedside sleepers and other similar furnishings are adequate to meet the demands of the child. While it is true that these furnishings are often less expensive than baby cribs and other full-sized baby furniture, it has been proven that cribs are by far the safest. Foremost, a baby crib is full-sized and therefore, minimizes or eliminates altogether the risk of the baby falling out or pets getting in, if such circumstances are possible. Other baby furnitures that can help immensely during the most trying months of parenthood are wooden changing tables, dressers, bookcases and storage units. A wooden changing table is a sturdy alternative to other surfaces where babies’ nappies are usually changed. Having a changing table means you won’t have to bend over the child when you have to change his diapers. Additionally, you can easily reach for baby supplies because changing tables are equipped with drawers for easy storage. Dressers on the other hand are compact and spacious – just what you need to store baby’s numerous clothes and perhaps, some supplies. Many modern dressers have a varnished or natural finish and are beautifully crafted to meet the standards of modern living easily. A baby dresser would look good in any baby’s room, regardless of the room’s color. Another helpful addition to your baby’s room would be at least one bookcase where you can put toys, picture frames, photo albums, an alarm clock, a baby monitor and other items that need to be within arm’s reach. Having the right furniture in the room where the baby is staying will ensure that taking care of the little one would be as stress-free and efficient as possible. Your baby will be happiest when he is in a secure crib and you will be happiest when everything your baby needs is always a dresser or drawer away.

Modern Husbands and Fathers: Role Juggling in the New Age

    Author: Boomeryearbook.com

    The

older generation of male baby boomers were hard working, responsible fathers and figures who drew respect from their families, especially their sons. As these sons lived in a modern environment, their values and expectations changed to embrace unorthodox, sometimes fragmented family structures that might include step children and second or even third wives.

Baby boomers representing the elderly part of our community enjoyed a relatively straightforward structure within the family unit. In a family where the mother and father have been together since their twenties, there is a level of financial security achieved in later life; whereas there might be financial hardship caused by multiple alimony payments and child support obligations for modern men with a series of broken relationships behind them.

Escalating costs make it imperative that men earn more in order to pay more. The problem is pandemic in that children are produced from one relationship, which breaks up: more children are produced within subsequent partnerships as the man might move on to link up with a childless woman who expresses a need to have a baby and so on…Men in general have become somewhat prolific when it comes to producing multiple families and the price is financial insecurity.

A career is all important to a man with heavy responsibilities both old and new. As men feel pressured to perform at work, their home life might suffer considerable neglect. Men often spend a great deal of time racing from one obligation to another at breakneck speed to satisfy needs in all areas of their lives. Eventually, stress can take hold and psychological articles clearly outline how the pressures of being professionally and personally successful can lead to feelings of failure; guilt at not achieving; depression and emotional illness. Baby boomers look on as interested spectators in such situations.

Psychological articles note that a man will often feel obliged to have the children of his multiple relationships exist in a friendly, parallel environment: their acceptance of their respective home situations helps their father to feel less guilty and less threatened by feelings of having ‘abandoned’ his children. In fact, children faced with younger half brothers and sisters quite often readily accept their new status but encounter conflicting loyalties as a result of their mother’s resentment of the step children, even going so far as to ‘hide’ their affections for their father’s other children from their mother.
